Bad News Rule

Looks like America has decided the bad option.

Assuming Trump wins AK (likely), Kamala needs to win PA to win the election, which, at this point seems unlikely (PA is currently sitting at 51.2% Trump with 90% of votes counted). Without PA or AK, Kamala will need to win every other state to tie with Trump. It also looks like Trump will win WI, with with PA, will be enough to win the election. Australian betting website SportsBet was giving 41:1 odds on Kamala vs 1.005:1 odds on Trump winning last time I checked. WaPost is also predicting a Trump win.

As a non-American, I am extremely concerned about what an Isolationist, Fascist US President will mean for not only the US but for the world. I am fearful for the future of Ukraine, Georgia (the country) and Europe in general.

I really don't know how to feel, all I can describe is angst for the future of the world.

For my anonymous online friends outside the US, all I can say is exercise your right to vote and don't follow their lead.

To the LGBTQIA+ community (and other marginalised communities) within the US, all I can say is stay safe, do what you can to survive, and, honestly, good luck. Be active in your local and state politics, and try to mitigate any further damage to your country's rule of law. If you're somewhere where it's genuinely dangerous, get somewhere safer, because there's no telling how bad it will get.

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

Good Luck,

A random online Australian stranger.
