AITA for telling my roommate no to another cat?

So context: I have a small house and a dear friend was going through some hardships and needed a place to live.

Roommate (we will just call them R) has 5 cats And i myself have 3. All fixed, no health problems, indoor only cats.

Now here’s the problem… R has added another cat to the mix. I told R that having 9 cats in one household is a little out of control and R agreed but assured me we would make it work.

Until R wanted to home two more cats!. I told R that this is getting out hand and that they need to start rehoming all these cats because 1, It’s inhumane to force 11 cats to coexist in a tiny house. 2, It’s financially hurting me to care for what we have already and 3, it’s hoarding.

R of course was devastated because R takes in sick or injured cats and has a deep love for them which I do not fault R for but I feel like I’m being realistic.

Another friend of mine (we will call them F) Was furious with me that I’d make R “get rid of their cats” and that it wasn’t fair because I have 3 of my own. I explained to F that I’m not telling R to rehome all of the cats, but that it’s better for some of the cats to be put into a environment that would be better for them and better for my household.

Now both are mad at me. Was I in the wrong?
