What do I need to consider moving to Chicago from the UK?

Potentially moving to Chicago next August for work. Never visited before but have done a fair amount of research. Wondered if there was anything beyond the obvious to consider when moving to Chicago? Also salary is expected to be around $70k, is that sufficient to find a place to rent around the south loop? Single person moving solo and don’t have expensive taste, prefer the simple things in life.

Edit: for context I have no debt, no financial liabilities like an existing mortgage or car payment. I am unable to visit beforehand due to existing work commitments unfortunately.
