Is it that intimidating?

going for around two weeks to visit my great aunt in sleepy hollow. i’ll be in the city multiple times, or at least i want to. a couple will be for my aunt’s doctors appointments i need to go with her for. the rest can be my choice. it’s my first time ever going. my mom, however, has been to new york city multiple times and loves it. she’s kinda making me intimidated of the city. she’s telling me i need to make all of these preparations and stuff like that. anytime i tell her “oh i might go here” she tells me to go on another trip. she knows im broke and i probably won’t go for a while. my friend just went to NYC for eight days and survived. is nyc actually as scary as my mom is making it seem? she’s making me afraid of the subway and all of NYC. making things complicated and telling me about how i’ll get lost and stuff rather than giving me a solution of how to get places. like why focus on the negative? tell me the solution lol. is it that scary?

also, i might be staying for two weeks. assuming as of my now, my great aunt won’t let me starve and will let me wash my clothes there too lol. my mom said i don’t have enough money to survive in new york (i have $500, doordashing to get more). is this true or no? i dont know if i should hear her out because she’s a big spender and im pretty minimalistic. i dont like to spend a lot unless i have to
