What’s a topic you can’t be drawn in to discussion on as you feel so strongly one way you can’t be reasoned with?
Mine is euthanasia for people who are dying and never going to get better.
I had an uncle who had a stroke and it left it 85% brain dead. All he could do was breathe. His body had to be be basically splinted to stop his arms and legs curling up in the foetal position constantly. Blind, deaf, couldn’t swallow so had to have his mouth cleaned constantly to stop him choking, various brain scans down while under all sorts of different stimuli like loud noises, bright lights, different voices, being pinched on the shoulder and the inner thigh. Nothing. He was quite rightly described as being a breathing corpse by one doctor. He survived like this for 3 years.
To me someone like that deserves the chance to go with dignity. I know he would have been absolutely heartbroken at seeing his family care for him so much and put their lives on hold to that extent. If he’s never going to regain consciousness why not dose him up and let him go?
Having seen him like that I know nothing will be able to convince me that letting him live was the right thing to do and I get too emotional discussing it to the point and I can’t have a balanced conversation about the subject.
What’s your opinion that you just can’t even discuss to be being so far one way on it?
