New lesion on Shar-Pei Mix
I’m going to preface this by saying that I already have a vet appointment for early January but am wondering if I need to make it sooner.
I have an 8 year old Shar-Pei mix. (50% shar-pei, 37.5% American staffordshire terrier). She has recently been more lethargic than usual. I know she’s older, but she’s always been high energy. She rough houses with my other dog, regularly gets the zoomies, and she consistently heavily chews on her hard toys (almost an obsession).
Last night I found a brand new sore/bump on her face next to her nose. It wasn’t there in the morning. It is circular and raised, there is hair in parts of it, it is red and scaly.
She and her brother (staffordshire terrier/akita/aussie/german shepherd/lab mix) rough house a lot. She regularly antagonizes him and he responds roughly. It’s not uncommon for her to get scars and cuts from him. But this seems different. It seems to bother her when I touch it. I tried to look under her lip to see if there was anything wrong with her teeth. She has one tooth that is brown and has grey buildup by the gum (I assume dental disease?). She has multiple hard toys that she likes to chew on. She’s always chewed to the point of there being some blood on them. I give her the honeycomb dental treats usually about 5 times a week.
Do I need to move her appointment up? To summarize…
- new lethargy (1-2weeks)
- new bump/lesion (within about 12 hours). Red, hairy, scaly. Turns away if touched too much
- regular dental treats and hard toys (bleeds when chewing the toys for a long period)
- doesn’t seem to bother her when she is resting
- no issue with eating
- she’s shar-pei and does have the mucinosis? on her back legs
