Why is weaker American influence seen as bad from those that once criticized it?

Why do some people who previously criticized American imperialism now use the decline of U.S. power and influence as a way to attack Trump? For example, in the past, critics argued that USAID was a tool for controlling other countries and saw it as evidence of America’s imperialism. Yet now, some of the same voices criticize Trump for diminishing U.S. soft power. Shouldn’t they see this as a positive development? Similarly, many once viewed U.S. troops in Europe and NATO as mechanisms for exerting American influence, but now they argue that Trump’s weakening of these institutions is harmful.
