Altra Escalante vs Escalante Racer?

I ran exclusively in Merrell Vapor Gloves for two years but now that I am increasing my mileage I want something with a slight cushion. I did 10 miles in my Merrells yesterday and my feet are in agony right now. I need zero drop shoes because my feet are flat as hell and any sort of drop gives me horrible foot and knee pain. I'm having trouble deciding between the regular Escalante and the Escalante Racer. I don't want to add too much cushion because I think that would be too drastic of a change after the Merrells, and I also want to stay with a lighter weight shoe for the same reason.

I don't use my running shoes for walking or for the gym - I have different shoes for those. Just looking for a light weight zero drop shoe with some cushion since I want to start training for longer distances and the Merrells basically have no cushion at all.
