70kgs off - Shrinking and growing
I’ve never really shared much about my weight loss journey before. In November 2022, I underwent sleeve surgery, and over the past two years, I’ve lost 70 kg—dropping from 160 kg to a low of 88 kg. Currently, I weigh around 100 kg and stand 1.85 m tall.
My weight gain over the previous seven to eight years was the result of multiple personal losses, numerous depressive episodes, and a deep disconnection from myself—my identity, my body, and my life.
Since the surgery, everything has changed—both for better and worse. It has been a long, difficult road, filled with unexpected challenges. My immune system shifted drastically, and I developed several health issues, both related and unrelated to the surgery. I’ve faced nutrient deficiencies, chronic fatigue, gastrointestinal problems, and metabolic changes that required constant monitoring. Among these, Dumping Syndrome has been one of the most persistent and intense struggles—starting with my very first meals post-surgery and continuing to this day. But it was far from the only complication I had to navigate.
And yet, I have never once regretted having the surgery. I don’t need to explain to all of you the reasons that led me to it—because they are likely similar to yours. My weight and body had severely limited me, and I was becoming seriously ill due to obesity.
My "before" pictures are older than the surgery itself because I avoided taking photos around that time. I was about 26 in those images, had surgery at 30, and will be turning 34 next week. Today, I look and feel younger, healthier, stronger, and clearer-headed, with more vitality than ever. And I haven’t even undergone reconstructive surgery yet, though I plan to, particularly for my abdomen.
It is possible. It does get better.
