Inspector Lewis' love interests

I just started watching Lewis and am halfway through season 2. I think Lewis has gone on a date or otherwise entangled himself with a potential suspect/victim's family/friend or otherwise person of interest in every episode this far..?

This really muddies my view of him as a professional detective. I couldn't find any discourse about this online and was wondering what everyone else thought?
