Women walking home alone at 3am

In a big brown dude who looks scary, you can’t tell I’m currently binging The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. I work late hours and inevitably find myself getting off my train stop at the same time a different small woman (typically white) is walking alone and just so happens we’re walking the same way home and I’m probably 20 feet behind her. She’s also generally walking slower than me and if I keep at my current pace I’m catching up to her. The optics look bad😂

My question is how do women in New York walking home alone feel about this topic? Would it make it more comfortable for women for me to cross the street and walk on the other side, I’ve done that before out of consideration but maybe that’s overkill? Am I overthinking? Are women scared when coming home alone at late hours? I’d love to hear from both men and women about how ya’ll deal with this awkward situation that I find myself in almost nightly in Brooklyn. I just want to get home and watch Real Housewives, I don’t wanna scare anyone on the way home.
