In need of help involving a major electrical drain in my 82 Cadillac Eldorado
IM IN NEED OF HELP INVOLVING A MAJOR ELECTRICAL DRAIN
I've been having electrical troubles with this thing since the beginning of November. Before then it had a slow battery drain. It started after I hosed off the underside, after which, the battery would go from full to dead in less than a minute running or not. I then found that 3 wires leading to the starter solenoid hod no insulation and were touching bare engine metal. I taped these up and found a few more bare wires on the top end of the engine that I taped up. I cam now hook up the battery and run it. When I use a multimeter on the battery while running, it sat at about 12.36 volts and went up by about 0.01 volts every 5 seconds. After leaving it hooked up while sitting, however, the battery was dead after about 12 hours. I have checked all of the Fuses to see if any had blown and 3 had, so I replaced them. None have blown after the drain started. The battery is new and holds 12.99 volts outside of the car. I think the alternator is bad as it is the original but I don't want to spend $80 on an alternator if the one that's on it already works. I'm trying to get it going by my birthday on the 29th. I am almost positive there is a short somewhere, but I would like to see what yall have to say. I have basic tools, a test light, and a multimeter. Feel free to ask any other questions that would help me solve this issue. Thanks in advance.
(For anyone wondering, the rear wheel is off because I'm in the process of rebuilding the brakes)
