What’s up with the banana theme throughout Reddit?

There's the banana lenghts scrolled thing, and in the detective doggo achievement the dog is actually a banana.

For why do they do this?? Does anyone know?

I'm not necessarily complaining as bananas are a genius unit of measurement for scrolling. The unit is very graspable to the simpleton minds of the internet... But not simple enough for me!! When did this start? How did this become? Why is the detective doggo a dog shaped banana?!
