Mixed cichlid community tank. Hear me out…..

So I’ve had the project tank going for the last couple of years.(I have multiple tanks). For some context I was reading an article a few years ago about mixing SA and CA cichlids and how it was possible and very successful if the correct fish are chosen and the proper water can be provided. I have a 500ft deep well that puts out perfect water at around 7.9 ph.

I already had an unused fully cycled 125g in my basement media room so i decided to give it a shot after a few months of researching the fish and their requirements I started. For the sake of time I will paraphrase by saying this took time and picking the correct fish with the correct temperament etc was all do right. I will make a post about all the nerdy stuff if anyone wants to hear about it.

So here we are 2+ years fully operational with no loss, sickness, or water quality issues. Several of my hospital tanks were set up and this is where the candidates were house for several months and moved around checking compatibility and so forth.

Current stock is:

2 Blood parrots 1 Zebra cichlid i think. He was actually a rescue. 2 Peacocks 6 Giant danios 1 Venustus 1 Synodontis catfish

They all get along great and love interacting with me (especially the Blood Parrots). I know this is a sensitive topic for some and I’m glad to answer any questions you may have. This is not something thrown together by a new fish keeper, I have been Fish Keeping for the last 25 years. I can assure anyone that science was used in this experiment and great care was taken to ensure the fishes well being. I love all my fish!

Sorry it was so long winded but thanks for reading and I look forward to your feedback.

Edits: SA should be Afr and yes I’m aware that blood parrots are hybrids of CA cichlids but their requirements are really close, they’re hearty fish, and i already had them so I used them.
