Passed Security + / 782

Gonna try and keep this simple for people who are like me. Passed with 2 weeks studying.

Experience:

29 y/o male in N. Va.

Defense Contract System Admin for 2 years (all my experience)

Bachelors Degree in Information Technology (didn't learn a thing)

Prep:

Work paid for my voucher and study materials / CompTIA resources. Getting Security + was inevitably a requirement for my duties at work (secure areas and such) but ultimately a resume booster to make more money. I'm in IT 90% for money and 10% because I like IT.

Jason Dion's Security Courses from Udemy: Unlike what everyone else says about memorizing tests, this is sort of what I did. I basically took the practice exams over and over until I was sitting in the 70-80's. I looked over his videos on certain material I didn't get.

GCGA: The book definitely helps, but I don't learn well from reading out of books. I mainly used it for questions to quiz myself.

Professor Messer: Hardly used it. I respect the hell out of the guy, but I just got bored for the most part.

Misc: I used other free sources online mainly for practice exams. I can't stress enough how much I slammed practice exams.

I know my way was unorthodox and probably doesn't work for most - and I'm not even saying it's the healthiest or smartest, but it worked for me. I have a military background where certifications for your job are straight memorizing exams, and I just took them over and over till I started grasping why the answer was the answer.

Overall, the actual exam was NO WHERE NEAR what any material you buy is like - I didn't even think Dions exams were relatable. I 100% thought I was failing, and was blantanly shocked by my 782. I still think they messed something up. With that said, if I can do it in 2 weeks, you can.
