Shocking… literally!

I’ve recently bought a flat and am doing some renovation. I took the kitchen light down today only to find this absolute monstrosity. I’m actually feeling quite lucky to be alive! Yes, you are looking at bare chocolate blocks pushed into the ceiling. I’ve found a few sketchy things in this flat, shaver plug replaced for a double plug installed sideways, 40A breaker from an old electric shower repurposed to a 32A socket and the breaker left at 40A. Boiler in the loft has an FSU wired with flex that drops to through the ceiling and is plugged in to a socket in the kitchen. Fridge and washing machine were plugged in to a single sockt using a double plug due to the aforementioned boiler FSU addition. However, this is next level dangerous!

So I’m off to wicks to get some Wagos and a JB. My plan for now will be to install the JB in the loft just above the ceiling rose, and connect up the lighting ring so I can get the power back on. I’m an electronic engineer but not an electrician, so if any folks here have any other suggestions, feel free to comment! Cheers
