Claire’s response to Eli planning a trip is???

I’m so confused about why the writers made Claire so against going on the spring break trip Eli planned for them! I want to be clear, I understand it was mostly just a plot device to show Eli’s state of mind and play into his diagnosis but it was actually such a sweet thing to do. He asked her mom for permission and everything! It just… uugh! All I’m saying is if someone like me that much in hs I would’ve been all for going on that trip! Yeah it’s a fictional show blah blah but it’s a comfort show that I rewatch often and I never understood this. Did anyone else feel this way? Eli is one of my favorite characters I think he deserved more credit for his efforts.
