Stolen license plates - operator said to report online as “theft from vehicle”?

I moved here from Missouri for work. I noticed my rear license plate was missing, so I called the non-emergency police line. The operator said to report it online as “theft from vehicle” but all of the options were specific to property theft with options like “brand”. Do I just need to have some sort of police report on file or is there a more specific process for plates? It’s fine if not, I just found it odd. Thanks!
