All of my nails seem to be growing double?

I’ve been a long time nail picker. About 9 months ago I noticed all my nails started growing back like this… now no matter what I do, there’s always two layers to them?? 😭 this one is still in the process of growing back. Once it’s fully grown in you can’t tell but it makes them a lot thicker. I know there’s nothing I can do to fix this but I have I permanently altered them? What even is this called?
