Salty Players in Commander Pods

I been struggling lately at my LGS to understand and deal with salty players that rage or flip out when they lose, are losing, or even are targeted at any point through out the game. I have tried what I think is best to handle the situation which is trying to communicate that it’s just a game, but that seems to not work and sometimes make the reaction worse.

There’s many examples of this that have occurred to me and my friends by players like this but the most recent one was a player played kinnan at a casual pod. He reassured everyone that it’s his first time playing the deck and it’s not likely he will pop off and just win. The rest of the table was already well educated on what kinnan can do and had proper removal and or responses for it if necessary. The kinnan player started to play and immediately got kinnan out turn 1 and had two mana rocks out on the field. Another player removed kinnan on his turn and the kinnan player flipped out throwing his deck across the room saying that it’s a shit deck etc. This soured my mood and many others even got nervous to continue playing.

The next game started with the same players. The kinnan player switched to Wolverine, a strong voltron casual deck. Maybe even high midrange since he had all the good upgrades. Wolverine faced, baeloth, Krenko, and a black apostles deck. The baeloth player played dranith magistrate and locked out commanders as Krenko or Wolverine hitting field early would suck for his slower deck. The apostles deck wasn’t much effected, the Krenko player continued to just play more random goblins and pray for removal, but the Wolverine player (the same kinnan player) looked like he was going to snap, he would flip off people almost reaching their face and told the baeloth player that he will rip his card and then there wouldn’t be an issue. The baeloth player felt uncomfortable and suggested that he can remove it for the other player if that was truly locking him out completely from having fun. The Wolverine player didn’t accept and then threw his hand of cards on the table and said that his decks are all shit and everyone picks on him. The table in shock tried to reassure the player that his decks are strong and if player don’t react to some of his things, they will lose the game. The Wolverine player pointed at some players and accused them of switching decks to purposely combat his own choice of decks to play and that he is always getting the shit and of the stick when it comes to reactions within game.

I just don’t know what to do anymore. I tried to explain that’s it’s a game, gave helpful suggestions on not playing crazy strong commanders so people wouldn’t target it first, gave deck building suggestion, and even told him that he should try politicing more within game instead of flipping people off or calling names.

Tables get full so finding another table is very hard, and leaving the store early because of an aggressive player just ruins my magic night. Does anyone have other ways to deal with this or a suggestion to try with such a player?

I used this one player as the prime example as he is the most salty salt lord in the LGS but there’s a few more I have run into. It’s getting to the point where I have run out of options of my own and need some advice on what else to do.

Thanks everyone and have fun playing!

This is my first post on reddit so my bad if it’s bad format or something!!!
