Dark, large scale, philosophical fantasy

Basically the header. I'm looking for fantasy stories that tell large or long term narratives, that are of a darker nature, and traffic in big ideas and thoughts. I want something that makes me think, makes me feel discomfort, and is distinctly fantastical.
