\nI am currently listening to Best Served Cold so recency bias there, but I completely agree. I had to check multiple times that there wasn\u2019t an old woman who voiced the Tailor or Patriana.

\nRiyria, The Paladin Trilogy, and Galaxy Outlaws are all phenomenal audiobooks.
\nAndy Serkis doing Lord of the Rings is the greatest audiobook experience of all time. It isn\u2019t even close! I\u2019m not sure of the guys name, but the Red Rising series has a great reader and he does an amazing job with immersion. But Serkis is GOATed, it is actually better than reading them.
\nRed Rising is read by Tim Gerard Reynolds. I know this as I am listening now and loving it!
\nHe also does all the Michael J Sullivan books which I highly recommend

\nDungeon Crawler Carl (I'd say it counts both as sci-fi and as fantasy, just on different levels) is "notorious" for being made even better than it already is by the excellent narration by Jeff Hays.
\n\nAnd, if you look it up and are sceptical of... well, everything you see at first glance: I get it. I was too. It is so much more than it appears. Give it a chance and you won't be disappointed.

\nThey're both great. In TWoK, I would look forward to the Shallan chapters, despite them being a little less exciting because I really liked Kate Reading's narration.
\nMemory, Sorrow and Thorn narrated by Andrew Wincott was fantastic. If that name sounds familiar, he was also the voice of Raphael in Baldur\u2019s Gate 3.

\n\nCradle is more like an action anime in book form. Found family, hard work vs talent, power of friendship type stuff.
\nCradle isn't really at all like DDC.
\n\nIt's really good in it's own way, maybe a bit slow for the first book but it really takes off.
\nCurrently at book 6 of Cradle. If you want hard earned power tripping fantasy, check it out, as long as you're willing to get through 2 mediocre books. The series picks up once a certain really fun character (you'll know them when you see them) is introduced. To me, nothing about the series is exceptional besides the world building and the absolute addictiveness of the series. By world building, I mean the power system is really well baked into the world in a way few progression fantasy worlds pull off. And once characters start getting powerful, the series gets addicting.
\n\nFor me, getting through 200k words for the series to start cooking was no problem, but I'm reading Cradle immediately after finishing The Wheel of Time so... Having a fast-paced, high action series to digest after finishing WoT has been great for me. I'd highly recommend Cradle as a palate cleanser between monolithic series.
\nAnything Tim Gerard Reynolds does I love - but his Red Rising is phenomenal. Stick with the first book -trust me it get better after the first 20% and unreal status eventually.

\nThe first trilogy of The Second Apocalypse Series starting with The Darkness that Comes Before by R. Scott Bakker and narrated by David DeVries.
\nAt first I was not into his narration at all but after the first book I couldn't imagine anyone else doing it.
\nHe gives it that biblical "preacher" feel. I especially loved his take on Cnaiur Urs Skiotha.

\nReally fucked up everything. If you read any part of any one of the seven books in the series and don't think "that was really fucked up," you might need a therapist. Super good books, but I cannot overstate how fucked up and unpleasant they can be to read (think Grave of the Fireflies, but imagine that the bittersweet ghost bit at the end isn't there and it's just misery throughout.)

\nI LOVE the audiobook for Dreams of the Dying by Nicholas Lieatzau. It's a Polynesian inspired fantasy world which explores the impact of mental health in a dark fantasy story. Essentially a king has gone into a coma and our protagonist is recruited to go into his dreams to try and save him.
\n\nIt's very immersive audio, with professional voice actors and subtle music at times ( but it's not an radio play or something, it's unabridged audio)
\n\nI also recommend Curse of the Mistwraith by Janny Wurts if you like epic fantasy. It's an incredibly deep world and a fascinating exploration of free will and the ways propaganda can manipulate and incite. Different factions all competing with their own agendas, two brothers cursed to hatred and war, and an ancient race lost to time slowly re emerging into the world with their motives unclear.
\n\nEspecially with COTM it would be a fantastic purchase as the publishers are gauging interested to finish the rest of the audios ( for some reason they started with book 10, did 11 and 12 and only then went back to do the first after years of fans begging them

\nI know this is not exactly fantasy, but Count of Monte Cristo narrated by Bill Homewood. I tried getting through this book (in print) 3 times and never finished. Few years after ran into the audiobook version and it\u2019s best 50 hours I\u2019ve ever spent. Even cried on a few occasions - definitely super immersive and captivating. 15/10 recommend

\nI recommend looking into Graphic Audio! It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I recommend them every chance I get. I work a physical job, and I don't get a ton of time to read. Instead, I'll throw on something like the Stormlight Archive from Graphic Audio, and it really is like watching "a movie in your mind".
\nSadly they're abridged versions of the books, but as far as production values go I don't think you can do much better.

\nI'm not sure how broadly it applies, but I believe the runtime difference between GA's versions and traditional narration just comes down to a lot of speaker names and "..., he said." Since that's not necessary with a full cast.

\nAlex Verus series is read by Gildart Jackson. He has done a great job. Mother of Learning series read by Jack Voraces was a bit jarring at first, the narration I mean, not the book itself. But I came to love the narration.

\nIt's been mentioned by everyone but The First Law by Joe Abercrombie, read by Steven Pacey is the GOAT of fantasy audiobooks. I've listened to them all the way through about 5 times and will never tire of hearing some of my favourite fantasy characters brought to life in such a vivid and engaging way.
\n\nI'm also listening to the Gentlemen Bastard Sequence by Scott Lynch, read by Michael Page. Up there with Pacey (thought not quite as good) and a very fun and exciting series to get in to!
\nI\u2019ve enjoyed the audiobooks for Ph\u00e9dre\u2019s Trilogy by Jacqueline Carey, although some people seem to find her voice annoying. The Greenbone Saga ones were also excellent; I really, really loved the narrator for that one and feel like he would be a crowd pleaser.
\n\nAlso if you\u2019re looking to enjoy or revisit some quality childhood classics, His Dark Materials and the Prydain Chronicles are both excellent as audiobooks.

\nI\u2019m on the third Phedre audiobook now. I think they\u2019re wonderful, although Anne Flosnik\u2019s male voices are all comically similar.
\nLol, they really are\u2014unless there\u2019s an accent involved like with Hyacinthe and Drustan, every man might as well be Joscelin. I agree that she\u2019s great overall though; she manages to convey a lot of feeling through her tone.
\nI recommend The Wheel of Time read by Rosamund Pike. She isn\u2019t through the entire series yet though, so you might want to take your time with it. It\u2019s one of the sort of keystone series for Fantasy taking the old tropes from both Tolkien and folklore and putting his own spin on it. The first book feels very Tolkien, which is intentional. Then starting with the second book things open up to reveal a huge detailed world with well thought out peoples.
\n\nThere is an older version with 2 readers that have done the entire series. Plenty of fans of the books love them, but they make me sleepy, personally. Also they are very inconsistent with pronunciations which can be frustrating if you haven\u2019t already read the books yourself.
\n\nIf you\u2019re open to sci Fi I highly recommend The Expanse read by Jefferson Mays. IMO he\u2019s the only audiobook reader I would put over Steven Pacey reading The First Law.
\n\nThe Expanse is kinda sci fi from the perspective of the working schlub. Yet these pretty normal people find themselves at the center of a solar system spanning conflict. (Humans don\u2019t have faster than light travel, they\u2019ve only explored our solar system.). It had mystery, politics, and fundamentally is a story about human nature. By the end of 9 books it explores what it means to be human, free will, and in someways the nature of sentient life itself.
\nThat\u2019s so funny, I\u2019m actually listening to the original WoT audiobooks as I\u2019m typing this. I took a little break from reading the books but I\u2019m planning on resuming, so I\u2019m listening to the ones I\u2019ve already read to catch myself back up. I\u2019ve heard good things about Pike\u2019s narration, hopefully she can do the whole series.

\nOne more thing, I am pretty fond of the original WOT narrators but I\u2019ve had multiple friends give up the books due to disliking them so I thought I\u2019d lead with Pike since I think everyone loves her version.
\nAlthough the Expanse show is quite true to the books, I suggest starting the audiobooks from the start. There\u2019s some interesting differences along the way and a couple of things that would be a little weird mostly involving characters being consolidated in the show if you skip right to the 7th book.
\n\nI sorta look at them as alternate universe versions of each other. Hopefully you enjoy!
\nIf you're into fantasy/sci-fi, I highly recommend The Book of the New Sun series by Gene Wolfe. A bit of a warning though- no book will be as good after that series and it will trigger a lifelong search for more stories that can compare \ud83d\ude2d

\nCarlotta Brenton does an amazing job with Price of Redemption by Shawn Carpenter. It's Naval Fantasy so if you're not down for sailing ship lingo might not be a good fit. But the characters are amazing, and it really kicks off well, imo, a new series.
\nThe Mercy Thompson books by Patricia Briggs are fantastic, and Lorelei King's narration of them adds a little something. Book one is Moon Called
\n\nI have struggled my entire life with getting through anything by Tolkien. I finally managed to finish The Fellowship Of the Ring (which I started at least a dozen times before, and never got out of the shire.) Andy Serkis' narration is the only thing that made it possible.
\nBlack Leopard, Red Wolf and Moon Witch, Spider King by Marlon James. Both books have such excellent narration, I can't recommend them enough.
\n\nAnother good option is The Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden, starting with The Bear and the Nightingale.
\nRaymond feists magician series would be my pick. Starting with Magician Apprentice
\nPoul Anderson\u2019s The Broken Sword (1954), narrated by Bronson Pinchot. 250 pages that smashes modern fantasy into flinders.

\nI have a couple of suggestions. The first is The Seventh Kenning trilogy by Kevin Hearne. I rarely re-read books, but these were such good books with amazing narration I read each of them twice.
\n\nAnd then, the Assassin\u2019s Apprentice series by Robin Hobb were great to listen to. Really easy to follow and relaxing to listen to.

\nI really like the new Discworld audiobooks, I've not listened to every single narrator yet (there's different ones per sub-series and some of the more standalone books have their own narrator) but the ones I've listened to have all been great, much better than the old ones (sorry, old ones) imo. My only fairly minor complaint is that characters who appear in different series don't necessarily get consistent voice choices, but I imagine that would have been a lot to coordinate with so many narrators - Death is always Peter Serafinowicz, though, and Bill Nighy does all the footnotes

He doesn\u2019t have the range of some of the other narrators recommended here, but he reads the dialogue as he intended them to be read and it gives life to the characters. There is a lot of banter and deadpan humor in a quite grim context, I\u2019m really loving it so far and I haven\u2019t laugh that often reading a book in a while.
\nI guess more sci-fi but \u2026 14, then The Fold both by Peter Clines. Not necessary that you read them in order tho. I only discovered 14 after i finished book 2. Now in my research I see they have a 3rd in the series that I wasn\u2019t aware of! I\u2019m doing the pulp fiction version of this series.
\n\nEither way, Ray Porter does the audio. I was so blown away by him I own several books just because he was involved.
\nIf you're into fantasy satire i cannot recommend the dark profit saga enough the narrator did such a fantastic job.
\nI'm halfway through Marc Lawrence's Broken Empire trilogy. Sometimes I listen, sometimes I read it. The narrator is really good.
\nI have to mention the Abhorsen trilogy by Garth Nix, narrated by the legendary Tim Curry!
\n\nI have also just finished listening to the Deavabad Trilogy by SA Chakraborty, which I also really enjoyed the narration of. In general I would recommend books that have non-English words, phrases or names in it as audiobooks as this gives you a correct pronunciation (assuming you are a native English speaker).
\nRuination by Anthony Reynolds. The story is nothing original, but as it's a League of Legends story they got all the voice actors for the characters in game and they all killed their rolls.
\nBeen listening to book 1 of Mark of the Fool and enjoying it a lot, if that ends up being your cup of tea.
\nPersonally I'd say the dresden files, or if your looking for a longer series the wheel of time(the originals not the rewrites for amazon tv show)

\n\nSampling the audiobooks to see how you feel about them will help you choose. When I heard the narrator Joe Morton's voice on\u00a0The Water Dancer\u00a0(combines Historical Fiction, Magical Realism, Fantasy Fiction, Science Fiction, Historical Fantasy genres) I was HOOKED just because I wanted to keep hearing his voice. And he sings. Wow he has one of the smoothest voices I have ever heard.
\n\nAnd then there's Graphic Audio ("a movie in your head") fantasy with full casts, background noises, and music. They have\u00a0Red Rising by Pierce Brown. That one gets my eyebrows going crazy and my eyeballs popping outta my head.
\n\nRecommendation from author Michael J. Sullivan: "Age of Myth just started coming out on Graphic Audio. Usually, I'm not a fan of dramatic audio versions, but I must say I really enjoyed this one when doing the proofing. I'll definitely be checking out more of their titles. I think their production is really well done."

\nIt very much is. But in my mind that is part of it's charm. It feels like you found a cache of shattered stile buried in the sand. It makes sense when you find out the author is an anthropology phd

\nthe Lost Tomb series by Tamsyn Muir...it's read by Moira Quirk and she does an AMAZING job, her narrating got me sooo into it
\nNot sure what kind of books you like, but some audiobooks that I thought were very well done were A Market of Dreams and Destiny by Trip Galey, The Tainted Cup by Robert Bennett Jackson, and The Mimicking of Known Successes by Malka Older.
\nThe Lightbringer series by Brent weeks is a great ride. Simon Vance does incredible narration and there is a lot of humor and excellent characters, as well as a unique hard magic system based on light and colors.
\n\nThere is a fair amount of religion in the story, so if spiritual/religious influences bother you, you may not enjoy it as much as I did.
\nFirst Law Trilogy read by Steven Pacey
\n\nThe Powder Mage trilogy and God's of Blood and Powder read by Christian Rodska
\n\nJonathan Keeble and Tobby Longworth's audiobooks are always good. If you like Warhammer 40k they do a lot of those books. They do historical fiction, and a bunch of other fiction also.
\n\nStar Wars audiobooks have great production value. They do them like full audio dramas so they use the same music and sound effects from Lucasfilm and Skywalker Ranch that are in the films. Some people dont like that kind of stuff in audiobooks, but I think star wars does it really well. Marc Thompson is the best star wars narrator.
\n\nGeorge Guidall is a staple in the audiobook industry.
\n\nAlso, audible provides free 5 minute samples of every audiobook they sale so if you want to try out some narrators without spending money thats a great way to do it for free.
\n\nIve been listening to audiobooks for over 20 years and there is a ton of variety and a wide range of quality on the market. Have fun.
\nThe audiobook for The Rage of Dragons is amazing and was vital (for me) to pronouncing all the African-inspired names/words.
\n\nI just finished Between Two Fires and the narration is really excellent.
\n\nThis is How you Lose the Time War alternates perspectives between two characters and the audiobook uses a different narrator for each. It really enhanced what is already a great book (and it's super short!)
\nRed Rising! TGR is the absolute \ud83d\udc10
\nJenn Lyons' Chorus of Dragons. The series (completed btw) is written as characters telling other characters about events, and the earbook narrators have a blast working in interruptions, snark, comments, and little exchanges that hint at events they havent told yet. It's really well done.
