Delo 400 MGX Review

I'm a bit bored since we have no classes, so I’m going to write a review of the Delo 400 MGX that I used during my last oil change. (This is the first time I’ve used an oil outside of Casa.)

Since the car was new, I’ve always used the mineral oil from Mitsubishi (blended by Shell, I think it’s the HX5 15W-40 for diesel). My usual method is to ask them to drain the old oil, then I bring a flushing oil (any cheap diesel oil), and I ask them to put in the flushing oil (5 liters), idle the car for 5–10 minutes, then drain it again, replace the oil filter (I use Purolator Boss), and finally put in the new oil.

The car went out of warranty last July, so I decided to have the oil change done outside of Casa since it's faster and there’s no long waiting time. Caltex White Plains is near where I live, and I noticed they have a service bay, so I went there. I chose the Delo 400 MGX because I only use mineral oil and always change my oil within 4,000–5,000 km. As usual, we drained the old oil, used the flushing oil (see the 2nd pic), changed the filter, and then added the new oil.

I remember my father telling me that Delo is a good oil for diesel engines, and while driving the car on my way home, it was like the engine went into silent mode and was running very smoothly. Don’t get me wrong, I also experienced this when I had my oil changed at Casa before, but after a few hundred kilometers, it went back to normal noise levels. I’ve been using this oil for more than a week now, including a trip to Baguio, and it feels like the engine is calm and relaxed. While running at 110 kph in 6th gear, I can barely hear the engine noise, and it feels like a gasoline engine hahaha. My car is also remapped, and I noticed that the smoke was reduced when I floored it. I’ve already run it for around 900 km, and when I checked the dipstick yesterday, I was surprised that the oil is still clean (see the 3rd pic). With the oil I used at Casa, after around 200 km, the oil would start to get dark, though I know that diesel oils tend to darken soon after an oil change (if that matters lol it’s just an observation I made).

Anyway, I’d personally vouch for this oil since it’s quite affordable (Php 4k + oil filter) compared to Casa, where I spend around Php 6k–7k for an oil change alone. So yeah, I plan to stick with this oil for my next changes.
