Moving for a private school
Hi. Mid six figure earner in combo with wife that earns well but not HENRY
In finance. Markets related. Things going personally well but firm performance can be volatile.
Son has a reception offer at a top v oversubscribed academic london day school that goes all through after an “assessment process”
Would need to most likely move to a more expensive part of NW london and get a smaller place in doing so and also find a new school for my daughter in year 1 (although several private options in NW london)
Am trying to gauge if this is a remotely sensible thing to do in the current climate
School options near us are a perfectly decent state primary (although no nice secondaries) or a small prep with limited grounds but reasonably good exits at 11 (albeit no guarantees). Feels like the extra costs of the actual day school are worth it
But when factoring stamp, much slower mortgage pay down etc it becomes expensive and considerably pushes out LT financial freedom and also most areas being considered don’t have an amazing state back up for 2ndary
So really it’s about all of this to provide a great start / education and reluctance to give up the “bird in the hand” element of the offer now
Prudent option would be to wait until 11 and take our chances or move for a great state school
Anyone been through something similar or has any thoughts
