Has the nanomachine manufacturing technique that Cortana used to upgrade Chief's suit to a GEN 2 ever been brought up again?

I understand that Chief needed a new suit in Halo 4, but because he was stuck aboard the Forward Unto Dawn between Halo 3 and 4 and they didn't have a way for him to receive a new suit, they hand-waved his new suit as something that Cortana built using nanomachine manufacturing.

Which raises so many other questions. Why haven't we heard more about this technology? Why does the Forward Unto Dawn have a nanomachine manufacturing station? In particular why does the Dawn have the raw materials used in MJOLNIR armor construction, like the data crystal layer - why is that stored aboard a warship?

Chief was not woken up from cryo the entire time, why are these nanomachine manufacturing stations installed inside of cryo pods?

They should have had it so he wakes up in his GEN 1 armor and spends the first half of the game with it, up until meeting the Infinity and the Spartan-IVs. Thematically it would work much better with the idea that Chief has spent the past 7 years in cryo and doesn't know what's going on, while the galaxy has moved on without him. Then when he finally boards the Infinity, he gets a new set of GEN 2 armor. The Infinity certainly has plenty of spare armor pieces on hand.
