Redshift vs Octane for Houdini?
I’m slowly transitioning into Houdini from Cinema 4D, mainly due to the rising costs of C4D year after year. In the C4D community, there’s a fairly equal number of tutorials available for both Octane and Redshift rendering. However, when it comes to Houdini, it seems like 90% of the tutorials are for Redshift.
Is there a specific reason for this? Is Redshift slightly more optimized for Houdini? Is it more flexible? I know Octane is a bit cheaper, so I’m curious if there are trade-offs to consider.
I’m aware that many people might recommend Karma, and I’ve already given it a try and done some research. While the improvements in Karma over the past three years have been impressive, I feel it’s still hard to beat third-party renderers like Redshift and Octane in terms of speed and visual quality, at least for the foreseeable future.
