Time To Get A "Real" Job?
Howdy Folks!
I'm a solo indie developer and I released a game on Steam August of 2023. For a solo created game it's done rather well and I've been working on a second game. I'm currently finalizing the Steam page to accept wish lists for the new game.
That is all good news, but the bad news is that I find myself in a situation where the money from first game is running out and potential money from my second game is still a bit far off and certainly not guaranteed. My landlord recently let me know that they are moving and selling off the property. So because of these factors, I find myself in a position where I probably need to get a "real" job to make ends meet.
I've managed to work full time on indie dev for the last 8 years. I have a lot of experience and am looking for work in the industry, but I honestly am not sure what I should or could even do in regards to a specific job title. Although I have a lot of experience I feel I'm at a disadvantage having not worked in a team.
As a solo developer I had to do a lot of different things. How do I figure out what I'm good at and how do I market those skills?
Does the fact that I've developed and shipped a game help land a job or is having worked in the industry and having a work history via a resume/cv more important?
