JRPGs with flexible customisation options? (FFV, Crystal Project)
I used to play a lot of JRPGs when I was a kid so have played most of the big titles from SNES/PSX era. The last 10 years or so I have struggled to get into any due to glacial and often cringey story/dialogue, as well as feeling like a lot of the battle systems lacked depth. Maybe I've just been playing the wrong games.
I recently played Crystal Project, however, and absolutely loved it. There was almost no story and the job system allowed for huge strategy variation, so I was able to try out many different battle tactics and even make custom squads for specific endgame bosses. It reminded me of FFV, but with a Breath of the Wild style open world and platforming.
Can you guys recommend any JRPGs with similar battle/strategy options to Crystal Project? What I really enjoy is theorycrafting my own builds and trying them out. I also enjoyed the difficulty as I find a lot of JRPGs far too easy. Bonus if the dialogue is minimal or has a high-speed option as I read quickly.
I have a PC with Steam as well as a Switch. Games I have played which fit the description somewhat:
FFV
Etrian Odyssey 1/2/3
Crystal Project
I've also wishlisted Octopath Traveller 2 as I heard that's got a nice job system and it looks gorgeous.
