New (to Me) fragrances
I recently added “V”, “Keep it Fluffy” and “Prince of Darkness” to my fast-growing Lush fragrance collection.
A little background on me- I worked for Lush for about a year in 2011 and used their products sparingly since. Recently their products have become one of my new hyperfixations again and it doesn’t only include perfumes, although that’s been my “big” thing.
My favorite perfumes so far, if I HAD to choose are: Tumeric Latte and Lord of Misrule (although I love ALL of them and switch them out depending on mood/vibe)
I will start with “Prince of Darkness”solid perfume, which was a part of a kitchen box and I ordered off EBay unopened for about $25.
It’s described on here by others as a “lavender Lord of Misrule” so I was sold! I think that description is extremely accurate. At first, the lavender is so strong and almost medicinal in its herbal forward top note. It is the most earthy and apothecary-like scent I’ve smelled from Lush. Like it could be in the fancy soap section of Whole Foods. I LOVE this scent. After the initial lavender, the patchouli does come out and it’s more of a balance of herbal and earthy. It does not last long, and is more of an aromatherapy type of vibe to me, so I use it by my bedside (where I also keep Sleepy lotion and body spray)
A massage bar and or body spray in it would be beautiful, and I hope to see the scent family in other products in the future. It’s a unique scent for Lush (I.E. not “citrus” and “ylang ylang” or “neroli”- which I still enjoy but, you know)
“V”
Purchased from the app. Was enticed by the spicy floral “gothic” buzzwords I’ve heard about it. I was torn between this or getting Kerbside from a reseller- but with spicy Tumeric Latte being one of my favorites, and hearing this like that but clove+floral, in comparison to the grassy of Kerbside, made the choice for me.
The first spray is VERY grassy. It smells exactly like a mixture between Grass shower gel and Daddy-O shampoo. It’s floral and mellow once it settles, but I don’t get ANY spice from it at all. Maybe it needs to macerate.. but once that initial spray is gone it just smells like Daddy-O.
If I was blindfolded and asked if this bottle was “V” or “Kerbside” I would be absolutely certain it was Kerbside, based off the descriptions and that initial spritz/dry down. It’s still very pretty, and truly a win for anyone who loves Daddy-O, but I wanted it to be a much darker and deeper scent, so I will try to mix with TL for some spice and see how that combination works out to get me closer to my scent goals.
“Keep it fluffy”
I purchased this for a few reasons.. also from the app. I read on here that it is like “goodnight sweetheart” pillow spray- which I loved when I tried it in the store. When I sprayed GS on my skin I couldn’t stop smelling my wrist, but not being meant for that type of wear, it lasted only about 40 minutes. I don’t remember how to describe that one to be honest, but I do remember I absolutely loved it and was eager to hope to find out it was a diluted version of a perfume they already had. This does not smell like the pillow spray at all, so that set me up for disappointment.
I also saw some say that it was the same as “posh white chocolate and roses” shower smoothie… I didn’t really expect it to be because the white chocolate is a pretty important part of the formula, but was hopeful enough. The shower smoothie is one of my favorites products I’ve ever tried from Lush. The white chocolate really comes out when you use it.. making it a really creamy rose scent that is divine, while on its own in the tub it smells like rose. I of course smell the rose similarity, but that’s all. I’m going to try mixing with Butterball.
I specifically read that “Keep it Fluffy” is “nothing like sex bomb”…
It’s sex bomb.
At first you get hit with strong white florals. Then the rose comes through- and it is a very true rose.. not Rose Jam / Ros Argon rose which is playful and well.. jammy.. but classic, vintage, rose garden rose. As it settles the jasmine becomes more prominent. To me, it smells exactly like a slightly more rosey version of Sex Bomb. Which fortunately I have always loved. I just got the body scrub and was eyeballing the body spray for a future purchase, so Keep It Fluffy still works out for me. This is the most “this is a perfume” scent in my collection. Like when I spray the others, I think they just make me smell good and unique, they’re more hard to pinpoint scents.. this one is “that’s a nice smelling floral perfume”.
As far as lasting power and projections for the two spray on fragrances go, I think they work similarly to almost all of my Lush fragrances do. In that they become “skin scents”. I probably would smell lovely for a hug or cuddle, but I don’t think anyone else can really smell them on me after a few hours. I find myself sticking my nose in my shirt to smell the fragrances throughout the day. I usually only use 2-3 sprays on my skin so this could definitely be improved if I used a few other sprays, and layering on my clothes as well though. Still trying to find a sweet spot.
So how do I feel about my blind buys? Overall good, because they are all nice smelling perfumes. I don’t have any DISLIKE towards them at all! But they’re not entirely what I was hoping for or expecting based off what I read about them. The smaller bottles would have been faaaabulous. That’s the risk one takes with a blind buy though, and I’m not mad about it.
Anyway, these are just my opinions after wearing these in rotation for a few days! I know there will be folks who experience the scents different and this isn’t the most poetic fragrance review on here, but I wanted to share, as I am someone who reads through the forums for similar posts when making my decisions on what to buy. There are still so many I want to add, but aside from Pansy, which I’ve had for a few years now, I bought all of these only within the last four-ish months, so I need to calm down for a while 😅
