Drinking alcohol after Mono and LFTs?

Hey all! Given that tonight is New Year's Eve, I have a quick question around alcohol consumption after mono.

To give some background, when I was diagnosed a few weeks back, my liver function was deranged in the usual areas (GGT, ALT etc) - nothing crazy, but definitely abnormal. My doctor advised me not to drink or play contact sports until the next set of bloods were done.

I stuck to my doctors advice (which wasnt necessarily easy over Christmas in the UK - you know what we're like!) and took good care of myself. I was fortunate enough to only have mild symptoms that were gone by mid-December. I still made sure to avoid alcohol etc even though I was feeling fine in myself as I wanted to be sure the liver was heading in the right direction.

Anyways, my next round of bloods were done yesterday and I got them back this morning. My scores are all back to normal, apart from my GGT which is only slightly raised at 63 (normal being 0-60). I was pretty surprised, as everything I read online makes it seem to like it would take months for the liver to return to normal function.

I have plans to meet friends tonight for new year, but I don't think I'll be able to speak to my doctor until afterwards. Do you think I'm relatively safe to drink alcohol this evening? I'm by no means planning to get blackout drunk - especially as I'll probably get drunk quicker after a few weeks without a drop, and I'm unsure how it will make me feel afterwards. Just a few drinks to bring in the new year.

I know it sounds a bit stupid of me, but this Christmas has completely sucked without being able to let my hair down with my friends, especially with how much socialising revolves around sitting in pubs etc. I've resisted the temptation and seem to have myself on the mend, so it'd be nice to have a cold beer or two to celebrate. I just want to make sure I'm not going to harm myself in the process.

Thanks.
