New to the game. Any tips welcome!

Heeya folks! Today I started MHW for the first time after finaly being convinced by my GF to try it with her. She has over 1500 hours already in the game and is guiding me along. I picked Longsword, which she told me can be quite tricky to master, but I love the way the weapon plays and the over the top Edgyness of it. Any advice for a rookie like me to get better woth the weapon?
