dear mcps

Dear Montgomery County Public Schools Administration,

I hope this email finds you well. I am writing as a concerned member of our community to urge MCPS to strongly consider closing schools tomorrow due to the severe weather conditions and associated risks to student safety.

With temperatures expected to drop to 20°F and warnings for frostbite and hypothermia, the safety of our students, particularly those who walk to school or wait for buses, is at significant risk. Prolonged exposure to such cold conditions, especially without proper winter clothing, can lead to serious health issues, including frostbite within 30 minutes and hypothermia.

Additionally, lingering snow and ice on sidewalks and roads create hazardous conditions for both walkers and vehicles. Students and families who rely on walking may face slippery surfaces, while buses and cars could struggle with traction, increasing the likelihood of accidents.

While we understand the importance of maintaining educational continuity, student safety should remain our top priority. Closing schools in such conditions demonstrates a commitment to the well-being of our community, ensuring that no student or staff member is placed in harm's way unnecessarily.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I trust MCPS will carefully evaluate the risks and make the best decision for our students and staff. Please let me know if I can provide any further input or support.

Sincerely,
