Why I Prefer to Play on Xbox
Let me start by saying that the pc version will be superior for most people, The few things the xbox version has that the pc doesn’t aren’t a big deal to most people, but they are to me. The largest issue for me is console commands. Morrowind is a tough game, but this makes every victory way more rewarding. When I play on pc the fact that I could, at any point, console command myself out of any jam I might find myself in really takes away the sense of accomplishment this game is so great at giving you. I’m aware that I could just not use them but it’s their mere presence that feels dirty to me. I’ve beaten the main quest on pc without using console commands and i’ve beaten it on xbox and it was way more satisfying on xbox. I understand the console is good for fixing bugs but it’s absence makes the unforgiving landscape of this game really come alive for me. There’s also the fact that the PC version is able to be endlessly customized, modded, and tinkered with. Again, for most people this is a huge plus, but I tend to tinker more than I play on the PC. Every time I get a little frame drop or stutter I mess around with MGE or my display settings or I remove certain mods I suspect might be causing issues etc. If you own the console version of Morrowind there’s only one thing you can do with it and that’s play it. This increases immersion a lot for me, the ability to change every single aspect of the game makes Morrowind feel a little less magical to me, It feels like peeking behind the curtain in a way. it makes it feel more like a piece of software rather than a work of art. Do I wish it was 16:9 yeah. Do I wish the view distance was farther? sure. But these ‘downgrades’ are worth it to me. I know this will be the minority opinion by a lot but I’m very curious if anyone else feels the same way about Morrowind on xbox.
side note: I’m talking about the series s/x version that has better frame rate and load times. the original xbox version is pretty damn rough.
