Bedside bassinet for contact sleepers?

My little guy and I have taken up residence in the living room. We have a bassinet but he absolutely abhors it and we’ve never been able to get him to sleep in it. We’ve figured out that the little dude likes to have someone near him/touching him (his feet touching us/us holding his hand or just simply lying next to him). So now, for the last 12 weeks we’ve been sleeping on a sort of pull out couch. It’s one of those hard Amazon finds that aren’t comfy but hey, it’s a nice firm surface and he likes it so 🤷‍♀️

Anyway, my husband and I have given up on trying to get him to sleep in the bassinet but I miss sleeping next to my husband and most of all miss sleeping in an actual bed. The couch setup is harsh on my body and I’m waking up with aches and pains all over my body from the contortionist level positions I’m putting myself in to give him the space he needs.

We’ve thought about trying the bedside bassinet and while it looks great in theory, I’m worried he will still hate it. I don’t want to spend $150 on something he will end up hating. We’re pretty tight on money, but I will absolutely spend it if I can feel at least 80% confident it could work. I figure he will have a similar set up as we do in the living room that will allow him to feel like he’s still close enough, but giving mommy and daddy their own space too.

Anyone else have success with the bedside bassinet for their little contact sleepers? What are some bedside bassinets that are safe and sturdy?

Before anyone comes at me that co-sleeping is not safe: the couch is designed to turn into a full sized bed and he’s well protected from the dangers of falling off/me accidentally rolling onto him. His pediatrician has also stated that what we are doing is ok as long as we are taking the necessary precautions. I’m looking for actual helpful advice and not a lecture. I absolutely love having him near me and feel better when I can see him/reach out to him when he’s stirring.

Right now we get a good 4-6 hour stretches of night time sleep with our setup but only 30 min to 2 hour stretches when he’s in his standalone bassinet.
