PCT start dates/permits

Hey!

I'm planning on hiking the PCT next year and I am looking into the permit and Visa process.

What is the most popular start date? I am traveling solo from New Zealand, very aware that I will be camping and hiking soloing. However, I am hoping to make trial friends and not become a hermit.

Is my understanding correct that the earlier you start the better your chances of avoiding trail closure due to fire, however the Sierras will be harder due to snow?

How likely will it be to get a start date around 15 April to 30 of April?
