Little a baby cry it out

We have a 6 month old baby who would wake up in the middle of the night and is always a bit of a nightmare getting her back down it can take up to 2 hours sometimes. My husband and I don’t agree on getting her back to sleep methods. Please help? He thinks we should just leave her even if she screams for more than 30mins but I can’t and I lose sleep anyway so I’d much rather settle her.
