Suggestions for furnishing an apartment for my dad who has Parkinson's?
Just for some background: My dad was diagnosed about a decade ago, but as of the last year or so, especially with covid preventing him from going on his daily walks to the cafe, his condition has gotten a lot worse. It became pretty difficult for him to go up and down the stairs at our old house, he's fallen once in the bathroom, and he had difficulty getting up from the sofa (it was too squishy and he needs it to be stiff enough for him to push himself up with his hands). I recently bought my parents a new place in an elevator building so that my dad won't need to take the stairs anymore, and use his wheelchair if necessary to go in and out, and also took the opportunity to throw out all of our old crappy furniture and start fresh so that I can buy chairs, sofas, beds, etc. that make it easier for my dad to live in his home.
The only problem is: I don't really know where to start. I found an extra firm mattress for him so that it'll be easier for him to get out of bed, and he has one of those plastic-y foldable chairs that he loves because it's so stiff, but I want to treat him to a comfortable sofa or armchair that he can rest in that won't be difficult for him to get out of with his PD. Also, what should I get for the bathroom? Is there anything else that I'm not thinking of that would be useful to have in the new place?
