Contractor/employee in Canada. I am paid $42hr while employer bills payer 145hr. Is this reasonable?
Added info based on a detailed comment below (much appreciated)
• Not sure what expenses for finding clients are but we have a department that organizes referrals for us and we choose from them. Our referrals all come from one client (insurance company) which the organization has a good relationship with.
• no rrsp, yes to dental and extended health
• was trained for 2 weeks, there are ongoing opportunities for training and development + 1k to use as I like. We provide a service so no tools needed. I need to have my own transportation but I expense gas, I think I can claim car on taxes although I’m unsure how much I’ll get back. Company doesn’t pay for any of my expenses they bill these to our client, and current rate of gas expense is low compared to what CRA considers reasonable (50cents/km vs 68cents/km).
• pay is based on my hours of work, I am responsible for all management of my referrals as soon as I put them on my caseload (coordinating, scheduling, treating, travelling). Plus attending meetings. Treatment, travelling, and coordination are paid by my hourly rate of 42. Plus 5% for non billable time (scheduling, meetings). Plus 6% for vacation (works out to 3 weeks vacation).
• as we only have one client they are charged the same rate for all referrals
