Help with excitable and sometimes aggressive dog?
Hey everyone! I am looking for some tips regarding my 1 year old dog, some type of lab mix if that is needed. She’s a really good and sweet girl but can get very unruly when on the leash.
Leaving the house she pulls and pulls, jumps around and goes super crazy (in excitement). It can be really frustrating for reasons I feel like can be assumed.
Once we’re outside she’s extremely reactive to most people and especially other dogs, to the point it gives ME anxiety. I try my best to hide it of course so she can’t sense my fear but sometimes I’m sure she knows.
I am about to be graduating college and most likely will be moving to a bigger city, meaning more people, dogs, and things going on in general. I would like to be able to take her for walks in the morning and night without fear or feeling embarrassed about how she’s acting.
I know most people say this, but she is genuinely a crazy dog. I love her, but there are definitely some behavioral issues (nothing medical), so I want to make sure I address this properly.
That being said, I want to be the one to train her and I’m willing to put in the time to do so. Please don’t tell me to go a trainer, hence me being on Reddit. I want to try some things out before having to pay the money for something I still don’t know would work. I know I’m the person she trusts the most and that my command will likely be the best one she follows.
Eventually I would love to take her to a dog park but I know neither of us are ready for that. She genuinely loves other dogs and people, loves to play, so I want to figure out how to tackle these initial anxieties she has to give us both more opportunities to get out into the world!
