That no one seems to know what the hell semi-colons are for
People just seem to use them at pure random, and while reddit's not a great example of what the average person does, its users do tend to be slightly more literate than most social media platforms, and most of you still have no idea when to use them.
So if you didn't know, they're for when you're ending your current statement, but the next statement is directly related. Think of the way it looks as literal, as between a period and a comma, both in usage and in how long you pause during it; a comma doesn't quite work, because a comma's not meant to bridge to a difference sentence, but a period doesn't quite work either, because you intend to continue the thought preceding it. Its usage also kind of signals up front that you intend for the next statement to be related, gives things sort of a flow. Did you see how it was used up there? That's pretty much the gist of it.
Now quit using it as a random hard stop and shit.
