Trump Presidency is not going to be as bad as Reddit is currently making it out to be
I believe that there are various positions that he stands on that would be beneficial for US domestic and foreign policy, obviously there could be an almost equal number of positions that could turn out to be disadvantageous but let's focus on the positives for a moment:
- Firstly and most importantly, we did not encounter an apocalypse when he entered the presidency the first time and there is a very strong case of us not encountering one again. So keep Kamala and carry-on-ala. :D
- Though a lot of hullabaloo has been made regarding RFK Jr. joining his administration particularly public health. A major point that I have not seen discussed by a lot of mainstream media is that RFK has always been against the additives that big fast food chains are putting into their meals and the pesticides and other chemicals that big agriculture promote.
- Putting aside Elon's idiosyncrasies, the guy is smart, a pathway for a new tech revolution could be mapped out with him joining the administration, which could be fundamental to the creation of jobs that Trump has promised.
- On the issue of immigration, he is not anti-immigration, he is anti-illegal immigration, which is really hard to argue against. John Lennon might have imagined it, but in the real world countries require strong borders.
- Putting pressure on the Chinese by his idea of levying tariffs on their manufacturing goods would also be a good economic lever to apply pressure on the Chinese to not push into Taiwan, as they have been strongly hinting at for the past few years. Further, the last thing the world requires right now is for another conflict to start in another corner of the world.
- In terms of the Russia-Ukraine war, this was a case of something that was bound to happen and the Biden administration pushed it to the edge, with their push for expansion of NATO. Since Clinton's administration pushed for the former USSR countries in the Eastern Bloc to join NATO to help him domestically with the Eastern European immigrant vote, the US has been pushing Russia into a corner to the point where if such an action had not taken place, they would have been basically geo-politically dead in European affairs. To clarify, I am not condoning the war, but it was inevitable. When the big guys fight, its the little guys that pay the price. With Trump coming back, its going to be US European allies that will have to foot the bill, it would be interesting to note whether he is successful in drawing this long drawn out conflict to some resolution with promises of US investment in NATO declining under him, which could very well be the case, as he has been very vociferous that the European allies do not pull their weight in terms of defense expenditure that US does. Assurances in that regard may be key, as not talking to Russia and just flooding weapons into Ukraine is not a long-term solution.
- The Israel-Palestine issue though has truly reached a point where I think God himself would have to come down on Earth to solve this. As with the way, the conflict is going on, it is truly Israel's decision when it has decided enough bombing is enough. With the economic and geo-political co-dependencies that Israel has been able to form with the Abraham Accords in the Middle East, except for Iran [who are not a bastion of any human rights and are certainly waving the flag of Palestinians only to get at Israel] none of the other countries in the Middle East are even bothered to raise any qualms or sanctions in any meaningful manner , as history has taught us when the options for countries are to choose between profit and.. they do not even wait to finish the sentence it is always the money. The Palestinians it is increasingly looking like are going to go in the way of the Kurds and the Hmong before them, a people without a nation.
- In terms of women reproductive rights and the fear that he would encourage for more restriction. He has always said that the repeal of Roe v Wade has always been for him that the decision on such an issue should be made by the State on the ballot and not at the federal level. As we have seen today most women reproductive rights were won on the ballot. Therefore, for good or bad though this is case, the power still lies with the people, as they just have to vote in their States for the rights they want to protect, unlike the Taliban in Afghanistan, where really what sort of a strategic pull-out the Biden administration has pulled that they have left the Afghan people [women in particular] in a worse position than when they came in. Further, he has clarified that he is in support of IVF, that abortion would be available for women where there are cases of incest, rape or the life of the mother is in danger.
- The pot-shot at Biden was just to highlight that Biden has not been covering himself in glory and he has certainly not raised the bar that high, that it is not feasible for Trump to jump over it and a side note a real look into the party's celebrity endorsement culture is required, where George Clooney deciding to withdraw donation to the Democratic Party should not be the stick that breaks the donkey's back [this really bugged me] and make the Party dump Biden for Kamala.
- Finally, as this post has gone too long, for all you conspiracy theorists out there, Trump has said he is going to release all the files pertaining to the JFK assassination. If that was enough for Joe Rogan, it should be enough for us as well.
