Shays Rebellion Ends, February 4, 1787
After the close of the Revolution, there was a currency crisis in the United States. Veterans of the war began to lose the land grants they had been granted. Debt collections began to provoke serious anger.
Captian Daniel Shays gathered several veterans together and the resulting insurrection became known to history as Shays Rebellion. Though it collapsed fairly quickly, it became a topic of much conversation at the 1787 Constitutional Convention, and played a role in George Washington's decision to attend.
