Paper Pro: PDF annotations compatible with citation managers?

I read and annotate technical PDFs with text and images. I currently do this in a reference/citation manager (Zotero or Papers/ReadCube), which becomes important for organization and generating bibliographies. I currently work on back-lit screens, but eye strain/fatigue is becoming an increasing issue.

For that reason, I would love to give the reMarkable Paper Pro a try - especially now that color is an option. My only hesitation is the reMarkable software. Eventually, I need to be able to transfer the annotated PDFs from the reMarkable tablet to my computer, ideally integrating the annotated PDF into the reference management software. I'm having trouble finding information about this process and details on annotation cross-compatibility.

At a bare minimum, is it possible to transfer the annotated PDF from the reMarkable tablet to a PC/Mac, and then manually import the annotated PDF to the reference manager/software? What do the reMarkable annotations look like when the PDF is opened in other software (for instance Adobe or Preview)? Is the highlighting retained? Written notes?
