Rep Safety Reminder
Hello everyone, I hope you're all doing well I just wanted to remind everybody that scams are very much so throughout these Reddit threads! Although the moderators do their best to remove them once they're detected, they can still go weeks without being noticed or reported. This is a friendly reminder of what to look out for, and more importantly to never let your guard down!
Price is always a key factor when buying reps. If a beautiful Cartier love bracelet catches your eye, and it's made of solid 18K gold, do yourself the favor and research the price per gram of gold, then ask the dealer how much it weighs. If the value of the gold used in the piece is more than the price of gold itself that's pretty fishy!! What seller would be losing money?? I can promise you that you will never find a deal too good because all of these prices are just based off of material cost + labor.
Rehome Scams trust me, there's nobody who likes a steal on a rehome like me, but that being said you still have to be extremely careful when purchasing rehomes. Fortunately, there's many ways to ensure that the purchase made is being safe for both buyer and seller. First off always check the redditors history (NOT JUST THE KARMA), there are many reddit threads where people can simply comment and receive free karma from other users to make their account seem to be more authentic than it is. Look for genuine interest in the comments in threads like Repladies or Jewelry Reps. I often use a simple Google image search as well to verify that the image weren't taken from some other site, or previous reddit post (saves the endless scrolling and is super easy to do! Just search Google Image Search).
Fake Dealers There are unfortunately tons of fake dealers out there, and I don't just mean through Whatsapp. I see some posts of newer rep enthusiasts who ask if a certain website is legit, and I like to investigate. Now obviously there will be some legit ones like DHgate, but understand that that will be extremely low quality reps. To check a website, use the WHOIS program to verify the domain age, and more importantly check through their website, look at the return policy, the shipping policy, the privacy policy, etc. Often times they'll use pre generated ones which often forget to put their business name in many places of the policy. DONT JUST TRUST REVIEWS. I've seen countless fake reviews that are used to drown out the victims of the sites. In my opinion, I'd avoid websites entirely. Stick to TD through wechat or Whatsapp, and you've got a whole reddit thread of people willing to help out! If you've got any questions comment and I'll do my best to help out!
Patience Although this isn't really scam related, I think it's important that we have patience with our TDs. I noticed a lot of posts about MC's shipping times being extremely slow during the holidays. You're definitely not getting scammed, and at some point will receive your piece just be patient! After all it's coming from the other side of the world during the most busy shipping time of the year! And don't take your anger out by bashing these "legendary" dealers who have been blessing us for the last decade!!
Overall, just please be careful. If you ever have a question about anything save this post, and feel free to come back to it!
Happy repping!!
xoxo
