Why is this sub so anti-Mormon?
A post yesterday on Mormons being racist prompted me to wonder about something. Specifically, why is this sub so anti-Mormon?
I moved here from the NE US and there aren't many LDS people there. More secular than not but the balance are mostly Jews and Catholics with some Evangelicals mixed in.
I play a lot of golf in season and I've noticed when I play on Sundays (in particular) the anti-Mormons are out in force and the things that come out of their mouths about Mormons . . . Well, let's just say they're pretty hateful and in the Northeast if said about Jews and Catholics what some of these guys say about Mormons then I would have long since had the teeth knocked out of my head. The level of intolerance here is surprising.
My experience with the LDS since moving here is cordial. I'm not in their friend groups because they keep to themselves but I've never had an issue with them. None of them have been assholes to me and they are good neighbors. So why is there so much bigotry against them here and in this sub in particular?
Edit: thanks for taking the time to comment. Concentrated political control creating discord is an argument that makes sense to me. And the anti-social nature of the LDS (at least towards those of us who don't belong) is also an understandable reason for tension. But I'm still trying to get my mind around the comments from former Mormons. My family is Catholic and Methodist but I'm not. But I don't feel the need to rage against those religions despite the Catholic scandals of the past. Hailing from the City of Brotherly Love, I was always taught that tolerance is a good thing. Wish there was more of it here.
