Genuine Question: Why aren’t the ICE protests happening downtown?
Just curious as to why the ICE protests have mostly been happening on King x Story and not downtown in front of/near City Hall? I’ve lived on the East side my entire life, I understand that King/Story is popular for demonstrations and holds a cultural significance, but it just seems odd that they keep happening around King and Story and not in closer proximity to government buildings—am I missing something? There’s already a large police presence here on the east side during these protests, and there were ICE agents spotted near the Target on King Rd. Also, these protests cause traffic diversions and ramp closures to densely-populated areas, which affects a lot of working-class folks who live on the east side, making it difficult just to get home after work. If the goal is to be seen and have your voice heard, wouldn’t it make sense to change up the location and get in front of government buildings?
