Severance has an eery connection to its primary filming location
A little backstory - I grew up in the town that Lumon industries building is filmed at and have met many people that actually worked there before it was "abandoned".
Proof here of some photos I took back in the early 2000s: https://imgur.com/a/LnDerCG
Just like Lumon, It was a very secretive R&D facility for a branch of AT&T.
- Just like the separation of memories in Severance, workers at Bell Labs were routinely spatially and work content sectioned off from their coworkers. Many ex-workers I spoke to commented on the fact they had no clue what they were working on until years later. Even the building is actually split into multiple sections and only separated by sky bridges.
- Paranoia was peak during the cold war. Similarly in Severance, trying to hide everything that goes on, in order to prevent prying eyes from radar and spy planes, the two under the building tunnels were used to hide any shipments or deliveries by hiding the trucks. You can actually see the truck tunnels in my photos.
It also served as the place for where the cosmic background radiation evidence was discovered and later got a nobel prize for!
I'm only 3 episodes into the first season, so not too many spoilers please.
