Is the Sony 40mm f2.5G a good travel/walkaround lens?

Whenever I travel I like taking pictures of the city both day and night as well as close up image of foods that I eat. I am therefore considering picking up this lens but before I purchase it, anyone mind sharing your experience using it or what you think about it?
