Ideas for South of Midnight community activities leading to the (speculated) Apr/May 2025 release!
Shouts out to a certain program that helped me condense these into something that the average person can navigate easily:
1. Monthly Themes and Discussions
• Focus: Highlight different aspects of the game’s setting, characters, and themes.
• Examples:
• December: Southern Gothic Spotlight – Share films, books, or games that inspire the Southern Gothic vibe.
• January: Creature Design – Speculate about creatures and monsters that might appear.
• February: Musical Inspirations – Discuss blues and other music styles featured in the game’s trailers.
2. Developer Q&A or AMA
• Host an AMA with Compulsion Games to discuss the game’s development, inspirations, and mechanics. Make it interactive by collecting questions from the community beforehand.
3. Speculation Threads
• Post regular threads encouraging users to theorize about the game:
• Story Speculation: Predict the main character’s journey and relationships.
• Gameplay Mechanics: Guess how exploration and combat will work.
• Lore Building: Share ideas about myths and legends that might appear in the game.
4. Community Challenges
• Art & Creativity Contests:
• Fan art inspired by the game’s visuals.
• Writing competitions for short stories set in a South of Midnight-like world.
• Music Covers: Have members recreate the bluesy music from trailers or inspired pieces.
5. Countdown Activities
• Launch a weekly countdown series leading up to the release:
• Fun Facts Fridays: Share little-known details about the game or its creators.
• Throwback Thursdays: Highlight the studio’s past games like We Happy Few.
• Mood Mondays: Share eerie Southern Gothic imagery to set the tone.
6. Community Events
• Movie Nights: Watch films in the Southern Gothic or fantasy genre (Beasts of the Southern Wild, True Detective Season 1, etc.).
• Book Club: Read and discuss stories with similar themes (e.g., The Lottery by Shirley Jackson or Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury).
7. Easter Egg Hunts
• Encourage users to scour trailers and teasers for clues and hidden details. Create threads for theories based on these findings.
8. Collaborations and Fan Features
• Spotlight community members’ contributions, like fan art, lore speculations, or cosplay ideas.
• Invite prominent YouTube or Twitch content creators to host discussion or preview streams.
9. Hypothetical Gameplay Scenarios
• Create “what would you do” threads based on likely situations in the game:
• “You stumble upon a decaying mansion at dusk. The door creaks open… What’s your next move?”
• “A mysterious blues musician offers you a deal. Do you take it?”
10. Launch-Week Plans
• Virtual Release Party: Coordinate a Reddit live discussion or play-along.
• Community Screenshots: Create a megathread for fans to share their first screenshots or favorite moments post-launch.
• Fan Reactions: Collect early impressions and reviews to keep the buzz going.
These activities will keep the Reddit community engaged, hyped and growing while showcasing the unique atmosphere and themes of South of Midnight :)
