Tip for getting off Spiro
TLDR: If you are having nasty breakouts when coming off spironolactone give Mario Badescus drying lotion a try.
Hey y'all! I am currently trying to get off Spiro. I was on 50 mg and weaned to 25 mg. When I went to 25 I developed cystic like acne under my chin - more severe acne than I had before starting spiro. Very painful, red, swollen and angry. In a cluster. Textbook location & look for hormonal acne.
I was persistent about washing my face, using salicylic acid pads, and pimple patches. None really made a difference.
*side note: i think I am sensitive to adhesive so I think pimple patches might actually exacerbate my acne.
What did it for me was Mario Badescu Drying Lotion. I know this product and brand seems to have a bad reputation but this is what quite literally saved my face from going into a full on cystic frenzy. I have now stopped the spiro, started winlevi and use the mario badescu drying lotion every night before sleep and it has been keeping that nasty break out at bay and minimizing the spots even with stopping the spiro completely.
Another note Yuka rates this product as "good" because all of the ingredients are low risk or no risk for safety concerns.
I feel like Mario Badescu is one of the brands that influencers got us to write off because it is bad for one reason or another but every product i have tried from mario badescu has been fantastic (not that I have used that many).
the seaweed night lotion is AMAZING if you can get past the chemical smell it is AMMMMAZING esepcially after getting sunburnt. I have also used their caffeine eye gel, which was decent. I used their silver powder to for pores which seemed to work but its just difficult to use - thus i barely used it.
The ingredients in Mario Badescu Drying Lotion:
- isopropyl alcohol ( i think this is why this product got a bad rep because it is so drying but maybe this is what people like me need lol)
- water
- calamine (good for inflammation i believe)
-camphor (idk what this is)
-sulfur, talc, Cl77891 (idk what any of these are - it says in parentheses titatnium dioxide)
-zinc oxide ( i think helps with healing of acne)
-salicylic acid (typical acne product that helps reduce pimples)
